Diamond cutting is a precision refurbishment process designed specifically for diamond cut alloy wheels. At ATD Autoworks, we use specialist equipment to restore damaged or corroded diamond cut wheels, returning them to a sharp, factory-style finish.

What Is Diamond Cutting?

Diamond cutting involves mounting the wheel onto a CNC lathe, where a fine diamond-tipped cutting tool removes a thin layer of metal from the wheel face. This creates the clean, bright finish that diamond cut wheels are known for.

Once cut, the wheel is protected with a durable clear lacquer to seal the surface and prevent corrosion.

When Diamond Cutting Is Needed

‍

Diamond cut wheels are more susceptible to corrosion and surface damage than painted alloys. Diamond cutting is recommended when you notice:

• Kerb damage on the wheel face
• White corrosion marks or pitting
• Peeling or cloudy lacquer
• Scratches or surface imperfections

This process restores the wheel face while maintaining the original design.

Important Considerations

Because diamond cutting removes a small amount of metal each time, wheels can only be diamond cut a limited number of times. We will always assess your wheels beforehand and advise whether diamond cutting is suitable or if an alternative finish would be better.
